Delegates, Teachers, and esteemed members of the MUN Community
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” -W.B. Yeats
We live by these words at Sanskriti; our logo depicts just such a flame. We are taught to add fuel to this flame, to intensify this burning. To us, education is not just a means to attain a livelihood, but an inroad to enlightenment. Intelligence is not the aim, but the by-product. Awareness and understanding is what we seek, and Model United Nations is an activity that provides precisely these things. It is therefore no surprise that we take MUN very seriously indeed at Sanskriti.
It gives me great pride to invite you to the third edition of the Sanskriti School Model United Nations Conference (SMUN), due to take place from the 24th to the 26th of April, 2014. At Sanskriti, Model United Nations has become an integral part of our education and has played an immense role in moulding our thinking process. The pattern of the moribund Indian education system is changing as we speak. Active and smart learning is now considered sacrosanct and MUN is an activity that, by definition, follows this approach. Taking part in MUNs enables young minds to discuss and debate issues ranging from the humanitarian and cultural, to the economic and military. It cultivates an analytical yet sensitive mindset, that emphasizes intelligence and quick wit. In its ambit, tasks like debate, research, administrative planning and the investiture of responsible power combine with the responsibility of leadership, to truly sharpen the minds of young individuals.
MUN at Sanskriti is a little different from the rest, as our conferences aim to provide an international experience - one that is driven by solutions and teamwork rather than conflict and competition for the gavel. We value creative solutions that are in congruity with foreign policy. For us, there is no greater success than when a committee is able to work together and formulate effective solutions, while simultaneously avoiding conflicts between countries. Last year, Sanskriti School was ranked amongst the Top 25 international MUNing institutions by BestDelegate.com. Having laid the foundation for such a conference, both erudite and exciting, we now hope to take the art of MUNing to greater heights. Simulating a variety of committees of the UN as well as other governmental and non-state actors, we offer you an outstanding 8 committees to chose from, as well as the International Press.
My entire Secretariat has been working at their level best to organize a fantastic experience for one and all. We are extremely excited by the prospect of hosting you this spring. Once again, I invite you to come share this experience with us and indulge yourself in the thrill of MUN.

ADDRESS
Greetings delegates and faculty advisors,
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"-Nelson Mandela
We at Sanskriti believe that education must facilitate the holistic development of a student. Education is not merely restricted to the knowledge that textbooks provide us. Education also means an understanding of what is going on in the world around us, absorbing the changes taking place, adapting to our changing surroundings, and also to change them for the greater good, by learning the important skills of diplomacy, negotiation and effective articulation of opinions. And if there is anything that the art of MUNing gives us, it is exactly these attributes. On that note, I warmly welcome you to the third edition of the Sanskriti Model United Nations. SMUN functions differently from many other MUNs because we believe in engaging in constructive debate, forcing our delegates to think out of the box and come up with creative solutions to pressing issues. Our Crisis committees have always been enthralling and our General assemblies the most spirited. In this third edition, we bring to you an array of committees, which will be discussing a wide range of issues, in historical and present-day scenarios. Delegates, depending on which committee they choose to opt for, will have the opportunity to determine the fate of the entire Balkan region in the period where empires, not republics, ruled the world (Congress of Berlin); to discuss pressing security issues like Cyber Warfare (DISEC) or humanitarian ones like the Child Soldiers (UNICEF); to assess the measures that can be adopted to mitigate the violation of human rights during a war (Historical UNHRC); to decide how India can effectively counter the growing threat of China and Pakistan (Indian National Security Council); to recreate the atmosphere of the Italian mafia (Camorra); to effectively use diplomatic skills and avert war during the Suez Canal crisis (Historical General Assembly); and lastly, to make the decision between war and peace in the Joint Crisis Committee. The International Press will further offer aspiring journalists an opportunity to see debate through the eyes of the agencies they will represent. The SMUN Secretariat is working tirelessly to ensure that delegates have an extremely invigorating and enriching experience. I assure you that SMUN will not only be an exceptional learning experience where your mental faculties will be put to the test, but it will also be a platform where you will get an opportunity to hone your skills and forge friendships which will last for a long time to come.
Hope to see you all in April.
Warm regards,
